Bacon-wrapped anything is a crowd pleaser, but bite-sized and bacon-wrapped? Now that’s a winning combination. Seafood, meat, fruit — there’s really no end to what you can wrap. If you’re looking for something unique to wow guests, sweet fruits like pineapple play really well with the salty taste of bacon.
Finely crumbled bacon — AKA “bacon dust” — is delicious sprinkled on baked potatoes, popcorn, salad and more. Make sure you cook your bacon until it’s very crisp and let it cool before pulsing it in a blender or food processor. That’s the only way to get extra-fine crumbs.
No matter how you slice, chop it or crumble it, bacon is the ultimate ingredient. There’s no bad way to use it. Kick up your game day spread by adding a slice or two to your favorite sandwich fillings or try it in guacamole and chili.
MAKE PERFECTLY COOKED BACON
Here’s the secret to crisping bacon without burning it.
Pan fry – For perfectly crispy slices, this is the method you want. Preheat a skillet over medium or medium-low. Add bacon (don’t crowd the pan) and cook slowly, turning frequently to prevent burning, until brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
Microwave – Place a few paper towels on a large, microwave-safe plate. Arrange a few bacon slices on the plate, leaving space between them. Cover with a paper towel and microwave on HIGH until crispy, about 1 to 2 min. for two slices and 2 to 3 min. for four.
